Abstract

Introduction: Hepatitis is a viral disease that damages and inflames the liver and affects many people around the world, affecting their quality of life considering the different forms of transmission according to the type.

Objective: To describe the epidemiological behavior of hepatitis A, B and C in the city of Medellín during 2019 – 2021.

Methods: Retrospective descriptive cross-sectional study. Using the database of the public health surveillance system (SIVIGILA) extracting the statistics of the population infected with HAV during the years 2019 – 2021.

Results: The largest cases reported in Colombia were related to the male sex, the population mostly reported was between 19 – 32 years, observing a downward trend in the older population. Within all cases at the national level these varied according to the type of hepatitis and sex. Also demonstrating that the department of Antioquia was predisposing at the national level and being predominant the VHA with 1104 cases, followed by HBV.

Conclusions: Despite not having important records by municipal entities, a need was found for the adult-young population, of low socioeconomic status, being an important focus group. It is important to generate better strategies for the promotion and prevention of the disease to the general population, remote communities of the city, sex workers, health workers; that allow adapting to the management guides for the prevention of each of these agents.
