Asymptomatic bacteriuria due to Raoultella ornithinolytica in pregnant women
Keywords:

Introduction: Raoultella ornithinolytica, previously known as Klebsiella ornithinolytica, is a gram-negative bacillus described in the 1980s. It has been isolated in multiple samples and is implicated in different clinical situations of daily life.
Objective: To report the isolation in urine of the bacterium Raoultella ornithinolytica, as an emerging pathogen in asymptomatic pregnant women.
Clinical case: The clinical case of a 20-year-old woman with first trimester pregnancy is presented, who presents bacteriuria due to Raoultella ornithinolytica with resistance to fosfomycin, which was treated satisfactorily. Asymptomatic evolution during the entire course of his treatment, being successful.
Conclusions: The reported cases of Raoultella ornithinolytica in different populations are increasing thanks to the different current diagnostic methods, leading to the knowledge of this pathogen on public health and its implication in the post-antibiotic era due to its resistance potential.
