Objective: To describe the epidemiological situation of uncomplicated dengue in Valle del Cauca in the period 2017-2021.
Methods: Retrospective descriptive observational study in which the epidemiological situation of uncomplicated dengue in the department of Valle del Cauca in the period from 2017 to 2021 was characterized. The data were subtracted from the routine files provided in SIVIGILA allowing the analysis of epidemiological weeks (SE), sociodemographic and socioeconomic variables. Subsequently, the data were organized in Excel and analyzed in SPSS Statistics 27.
Results: From 2017 to 2021 in Valle del Cauca, 51 367 cases of uncomplicated dengue were registered, however, 2020 was the year that reported the most cases which could coincide with the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, there were variations in the incidence figures, the young population was more related to the cases, predominantly male. In this department, dengue has remained endemic with some epidemic peaks due to the geographical and climatic conditions of the region.
Conclusions: The implementation of departmental and municipal epidemiological surveillance strategies is required in order to establish causes of the incidence of this virus, since in the department an endemic behavior has been seen reaching critical epidemic peaks for the health of the population, considering that the creation of support networks are key because the use of community pedagogy allows the population to obtain knowledge and can have greater Relationship and evaluation of their environmental conditions for a better quality of life.
