Tinea nigra: case report in Havana, Cuba

Tinea nigra is a rare superficial mycosis caused by a fungus called Hortaea werneckii, native to warm regions and coastal areas. The diagnosis of this entity and the isolation of the fungus from a circumscribed lesion on the palm of a child's hand were reported, who was treated with 2% ketoconazole cream for 15 days and had complete resolution of the lesion. Since the probability of malignancy of the lesion and the low frequency of this mycosis were ruled out, the presentation of this case is considered significant.
